Warming Golden Milk

Golden Milk is a traditional Indian drink that has its roots in Ayurveda. If you haven’t tried Golden Milk yet, you’re in for something super delicious. I love it especially during colder months because it’s so warming and comforting. It’s really easy to make and feels like a special little treat you can add to your daily or nightly routine that will nourish you from the inside out.

The star turmeric

The key ingredient in Golden Milk is turmeric, which gives this soothing beverage a lovely golden colour and many health benefits. The active component in turmeric, called curcumin, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries due to its strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anxiety reducing properties. Turmeric also supports your digestion, lowers your blood sugar and boosts your immunity.

Did you know…

that by adding a pinch of black pepper to your golden milk you can help your body with the absorption of curcumin? Same goes for a little bit of fat like the coconut oil in this recipe (you can opt for a full fat coconut milk instead). A touch of healthy fat makes the turmeric more available for our bodies to absorb because it is fat-soluble.

The recipe also includes some warming spices like cinnamon and ginger, that not only add a wonderful flavour, but they each have anti-oxidant and healing benefits of their own.

All you need to do is warm up all the ingredients on the stove top (option to blend it after to make it extra frothy) and you have a perfect cozy drink you can sip on all winter long. Golden milk is also an amazing soothing beverage to help you unwind before bed and enjoy a deep restorative sleep.

You’re going to love Golden Milk because it’s:

  • soothing and nourishing

  • super healthy

  • warming and cozy

  • creamy

  • comforting

  • flavourful

*adaptogenic herb that contributes to your overall well-being, from balancing hormone levels, maintaining energy and mood to supporting a healthy libido.

Instructions:
1. Add all of the ingredients (except for honey if that’s your sweetener of choice) to a small saucepan.

2. Whisk to combine and warm up over medium heat until hot but not boiling. Cook for a few minutes whisking frequently.

3. Option to add the warm Golden Milk into a blender and mix until extra creamy and frothy (this step is also helpful if you’re using fresh ginger and don’t want chunks of it in your drink; alternatively you can strain your golden milk before drinking).
